The 2007 Iowa Outdoors Ice Outing is just one week away! For those living in a cave the outing will be on West Lake Okoboji next weekend, January 19-21 and we at Iowa Outdoors hope you all will be attending. The planning for the event includes some great food, great people and some of the best fishing Iowa has to offer.
For those who have never been to an Iowa Outdoors Ice Outing you will not want to miss out! This is your chance to meet some of the people that make this site so much fun and a chance to learn as much about ice fishing as you can. The outing has been known for the great food brought from across the state (and country) and we know that tradition will continue! And as for the fishing! Man, the fishing boasts some of the best in the state with gills, crappies, perch, bass, walleyes and pike available for the catching (NOTE: muskies are available but out-of-season). Every year the event gets bigger and more exciting and with over 100 participants expected that trend will continue!
Reminder: We are in a new year for hunting and fishing licenses. Please don't forget to purchase them!
If you are interested either RSVP now or get the run down on the weekend's festivities (click read more):
Friday, January 19 - Sunday, January 21 All Day ice fishing on West Lake Okoboji. The fishing will be concentrated on Saturday and Sunday morning but many of our members plan on showing up early to fish as early as Friday. Those joining in on the fishing should plan on bringing their two-way radio's tuned into the official Iowa Outdoors Channel 7. The radios allow reports of monster fish being lost at the hole (goody) to be heard by all and it is a great way to keep conversation going while fishing.
Saturday, January 20th @ 8am Eric Goodale (goody) and I will be putting on an ice clinic. If you are new to ice fishing come learn the basics including safety tips, ice fishing rigs, tip-ups and all the electronics and gear that many of the pros use. Those interested in the clinic should RSVP and be at Gull Point at 8am.
Saturday, January 20th @ 7pm The much anticipated potluck will be put on at the American Legion in Milford (map). The food line up will be top notch and if you would like to volunteer to bring some food please sign up. This year Iowa Outdoors will be providing a complimentary keg and the great folks at the Legion will provide full bar service. Of course we expect everyone attending to have fun and drink responsibly and to do our part Iowa Outdoors will be providing two vans to help get those who need a ride back to their hotels safely.
If you are interested in attending please be sure to RSVP so that we can accommodate everyone. Be sure you also make hotel arrangements. Our sponsor, Harbor View Resort, which is ran by Setter is a great facility but he is already down to only two rooms. There are also a number of other places to stay!

Fishing from Fishing
There are thousands of live- bait anglers, who are excellent sportsmen, but the fly fisherman can practice better conservation from the beginning. [read more]

Thanks to member "speedy" for bringing up the fact that muskies are out of season. So while I promise some of you will see the monsters swimming below your holes, please don't fish for them and in the off chance you inadvertently catch one you must release it immediately.
