I have a question on muzzleloader bullets. I currently use Powerbelt copper Hollow point, and generally like their performance. However, the last 3 years I've shot 4 deer with them and they've all been hit in the heart or shoulder and have not exited the other side. While the knock down power is there, I would still like a bullet that will exit the other side to leave a blood trail. Are the powerbelt Aerotips good for this, does anybody know? Any testimonials would help.

I shot a large bodied buck 200yrds away in Canada last fall with a powerbelt aerotip. I hit the boiler room and a rib or two and had an good exit hole.

If you look closely at the packaging the hollow tips are for medium game and the aero say for large game. I am going to use the aero tips this year for the first time so I can't say much about them but the new platinum aero tips might get a try as well. They are supposed to increase accuracy. Sorry I can't be anymore help.

I used powerbelt aerotips in my Remington 700ML with a 100 grains of pyrodex and a 209 primer and shot a deer at roughly 47 yards. The bullet did the job, but when skinning it I found that It fell apart and there were fragments everywhere and no exit hole. I personally think that they are of inferior quality, but that is just my opinion.

I have only used the 245 grain hp Powerbelts. I have shot 2 deer with them both between 50 and 80 yards, and both hits were good chest shots almost broadside. Both deer ran off and left no blood trail at all because of no exit wound and high up entry wounds. We got lucky and found both because one almost ran into another hunter and the other had no place to go but into a large ravine. In both deer all we could find were shards of copper where the bullets had broken up. I still have the package with 4 bullets missing. I switched to the T/C shockwave bullets with outstanding results.

I shoot 295 grain hollow points in the power belt bullets and had nothing but great luck with them. I also shoot 115 grains of 777 (FFFG). I shot 4 deer last year with it anywhere from 40 yds to 140 yds and on all of them the bullet stopped on the far shoulder, which is just fine with me. I think that if the bullet passes through then that deer did not asorb all the energy that it could have from the round. Ideally I want that bullet to stop on the other side just under the skin, that way I know that deer got all of that energy put into it. So I see no problem with what you are expierencing with the bullets.

I shoot 240 grain shockwave tipped & sabboted with 100 grains of triple 7. I would say of the 25 or so does I have killed with it the last three years only a hand full or so didn't have exit wounds out to 100 yards.

I tested the power belt bullets but my omega didn't group them as well as the shockwaves.

Interesting testimonials.

I've used powerbelts for several years and have killed several deer (late muzzy). I've had similar results with the bullets. I love the consistant accuracy of them and the easy loading and unloading. However, almost all of my deer have been hit in the vitals (under 100 yards) and the exit holes (when they do occur) have been terrible, leaving little for a blood trail. These have all been the 295 gr. copper hollow tips. This has also been with 100 gr. Triple 7 as that combination has been the most consitant performance from my smokepole.

I'm interested in others' experiences and what bullets have performed the best.

Always keep looking - your best find may be just ahead of you.

I shoot 245 grain aerotips with 100 grains and get pass throughs at 125 yards all the time and the blood flies with a great trail if they even move after being shot.

Thanks for all the input. I called Powerbelt myself and talked to them. They agree about the hollow point breaking up upon impact. They suggested using the new platinum powerpoint. However, in the .50 cal they only come in a 270 grain bullet. This has a little more drop at 150 yards, so they suggested using the aerotip. This comes in a 245 grain .50 caliber. I'll share my results this fall. Thanks again.
