Drove all the way up to the Cabelas in Owatonna to buy a shotgun today. Cost me over $50 bucks in gas and they couldn't sell me a shotgun! Seems the FBI decided to delay my background check! Twisted Evil I had no idea they had the authority to do such a thing. Guess I thought it was either a thumbs up or thumbs down kinda thing. I thought that was the point of the instant check? Feels like my 2nd amendment rights are being cramped just a bit. So I've decided to join the NRA and vote accordingly from now on. Looking forward to another full day of driving and putting another $50 worth of arab gold thru my vehicle Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Background checks are horse shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It took Wal Mart a whole weekend for my background check to go thru once.

A lot of people say "Stitch, for once I agree with you", the thing is, they say it an awful lot.........

I went to buy a gun last year and was holding it while they called ( Walmart) the guy looked at me hung the phone up and took the gun away. I was told I am on a 3 day holding pattern. Lets see retired Air Force with a Top Secert security clearance. Life is good living in the land of the Free

Shiz happens. Sucks you drove there and didn't get it. I was worried about the same thing when I went down to KC to pick up a gun.

Something funky happened and my dad had to wait a few days to get one once. But he still got it. I guess I don't mind the backround check with some of the crazy's out there.

Greg,

I have have a permit to aquire firearms/pistols from my local sheriff's department. I always keep it current, costs about $8 @ Year. That way this type of thing never happens. You show your permit and you leave the same day with the firearm. Too bad that you now have to make another trip and you have to wait. Check into when you get some time.

I don't think a Iowa purchase permit will do any good in Minnesota... Rolling Eyes

I purchased 2 shotguns in the last 10 mos. 1 from Wally World & the other from Mills F/F in Mason city. It took all of 20 mins both times...I'm wondering if buying on a weekend had sumthin to do with the delays,I purchased mine during the week. IDH is this permit an Federal Firearms permit?

I've never had a delay; I think most of them occur when somebody has the same name or a similar name to somebody on the prohibited list. The FBI has a maximum of three days to decide yes or no, at that point you get your gun if they haven't turned you down.

The Iowa Purchase Permit is only good in Iowa; a Federal Firearms License is what the ATF issues to licensed gun dealers. When you go across state lines you're at the mercy of the idiosyncracies of that state's laws, however idiotic they may be.

Yeah I never had a delay buying a gun before. I even gave them my SSN. We need to either make the background check instant or get rid of this thing altogether. To make things even more annoying they no longer carry Red Wing boots in the store and they didn't have any Carry-lite goose decoys for sale. Heck even the wife couldn't get a pair of work shoes in her size. So the whole trip was shot to hell. I ended up buying 1 bag of pig ears for the pup and that was it. I think I'll go take a nap on the railroad tracks now.
