So I tried using hotdogs along side some shad yesterday going after channels. YouTube is great but I should have know the hot dog was gonna be a mistake. Had my poles in the water by 6:30 with my son and had to cats by 7 (both on shad). I told my son it was gonna be a good day. I decided to ditch the hot dog and needle up a shad. When I checked out the hotdog I noticed it had been worked on but not by a cat. I noticed teeth or beak marks. Dang turtles. Needless to say I did not get another cat out of that hole and had to move all my gear about 30 yds to get away from the turtles pecking away at my bait. We only managed one more cat in the next 2 hrs. No more hot dogs for me. Total failure.

Fishing is the everlasting feeling of hope.

I used to work in grocery stores.....little hint. Try Vienna Sausages. Not sure why, but the catfisherment that used to come in the store up in Waterloo would swear by them. They would also buy fresh uncooked shrimp and use that as well. But honestly if it were me....SHAD.

I knew of Guy years ago that would pickle hot dogs and go after cats with them.

Turtles will also bite on cut bait. If I am in an area getting weird bites (like a turtle) or catch a turtle, I leave because you are probably in shallow mud bottom with less current than other areas near you and nice channel cats will probably not be in that type of water. Your time may be better spent elsewhere.
