Figured I’d start the thread this year for people to post ice conditions through the season. Looking at the forecast it won’t be long. Any guesses on first ice? I’m hoping two weeks

Was hoping to wake to hear/see clear lake or igl's had capped overnight...I know that was overly optimistic...if you google webcams Okoboji or webcams clear lake, you can find live feeds that show the white caps on clear today and all open water on west Okoboji.

I expect ponds and small bays in our area to start capping over soon as wind goes down. Silver was capped once already.

I know people want it to cap over soon but this wind is actually helping. It is blowing around the water, cooling more mass. When the wind dies down, the ice will grow faster.

About a third of Silver was froze over this morning.. I expect lots more ice in the morning. Lots of the smaller ponds are froze now. Better report tomorrow nite. Water temp of Spirit now 33 degrees.

Good nite for making ice last nite, but with the 10 day forecast ice will form slowly. Be safe.

There was one guy on ice at Templars today. Few sheltered bays
And ponds 1.5-2". Thin at some of water edges. High today on my gauge 27.

Lakes near the twin cities have been capped for quite awhile. Last Sunday tried walking out a bit but was not holding yet. Looked for guys out tonight but didnt see anything. I plan to check tomorrow with the spud bar. Next weekend almost for sure will be out there.

I didn't feel like adding my 235# to the ice to go out and ask him how he was doing.

Must of been calm last night as a little pond just outside of town finally ice over completely. The rest of the week doesn't look that great for keeping it that way though.
