Greetings fellow sports people!
I am headed down to Ankeny this weekend to do the family thing. I was thinking about taking my 11 year old nephew out ice fishing. He has never been before. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to where I should try? I am thinking size is not as important as justing being able to catch a few fish even if they are small. I was originally thinking big creek but see a recent post about it not being great. Don't know if they were talking size or the ability to catch something. If anyone is willing to share info with me either publicly or privately it would be appreciated. Have been having good luck on the backwaters of the Mississippi, but lots of sorting.

Hit the Ankeny ponds on the north end of town. The pond by the old aquatic center/library/youth ball fields would be a great spot to take a kid. I hit it every once and a while and used to alot when my son was young. It usually produces plenty of numbers.

Feel free to shoot me a message. I got some great ponds you can try. I have fished ankeny the last 8 years and it NEVER disappoints me. Got ponds that hold giant panfish and have other ponds that produce a lot of numbers with still a decent size to take home and fry up. I have caught crappies up to 16 1/2 inches in the ponds and blue gills up to 12 inches. They are GIANT. Also have a pond that has walleye and whitebass in it. I can show you around if you would like give you a finger even meet up and fish together. If you have a facebook, check out my facebook page, search YFAI. I share all my photos, where they have been caught, depth, baits, gear etc.
