Hey Dukklr here's a late report, hunted the Big Miss Dec. 5-8 shot 12 malards 1 gaddy 2 teal 1 buff head. Watched malards leave L. Odessa Sun. and Mon. and not come back. Tues. real slow not 1 workable mallard, could'nt get to the landing Wed. would'nt of wanted to be on the river anyway. River icing up Thurs. so looks like they had the season just right.

Maybe in the south zone. North zone ended Dec. 3rd. Was moving snow yesterday afternoon and saw 3 flocks of mallards fly over.

You play with blinders on, only looking forward, never back. And your focus is on where you are going, not where you have been.

Right on schedule the northern mallards have invaded the Iowa Great Lakes area...a week after the season closed.

Witnessed at least 1000 swarming around a cornfield just east of Arnolds Park on Sunday December 13th with nearly as many geese in the same field.

Keeping it real in the Iowa Great Lakes

I was west of Ankeny this afternoon and saw a few hundred in a corn field. It was neat watching them move through the snow and they would keep rotating in the field. Get up and fly 50 yards and drop I back down. All of the drakes were dark green. They knew they were safe as I parked less than 50 yards from them and the door shutting didnt bother them. Once I get my camera software reinstalled I ll try and post pics.

Was up around Lost Island this morning, there was a bunch of geese out in the middle of the lake keeping the water open.
