I was on my way home from Cherokee today and stopped at Washta Access on Hwy 31. Decided to take a little walk. I walked upstream so I think I was in Cherokee County, but it is really close to Woodbury and Ida too. A farmer directly across the river from me on a high bank had a fully loaded dump-truck. I walked the sandbar and he just sat in the truck until I moved out of sight. I thought that was odd so I doubled back and stayed out of view. He started the truck and backed up to the edge and dumped a large amount of garbage into the Little Sioux River. Evil He dumped tires, wheels, coils of barbed wire, and a whole bunch of other junk.

I can't believe people do this stuff!

Here is my question. Who do I contact?

I took pictures of the whole thing. Might just post one.... Really makes me angry.

DNR and probably law enforcement. I'm sure there are charges that could be pressed for that.

You can't fix stupid.

I am so dang mad about this. Even looked like herbicide containers too! Evil
I can identify the truck, the driver and even the exact farm it happened from.

Its no big deal, I know this guy and he works for a medical waste company and is just getting rid of some old syringes and other medical waste. After a few hours in the river, it will be washed clean, so it should be OK. OK Just kidding.

I agree with everyone, do the right thing and pursue this. The DNR has such a hard time catching and proving cases like these and you have eye witness testimony and photographs. Should be a open and shut case for them to make an example out of someone. Please keep us updated, there isn't much that pisses me off more than littering. Evil

Nail that SOB! Probably the same clown that farms that field right up next to the bank for an extra row of corn and causes it to fall into the river as well. Disgusting Frown

But Stitch - Am I cooler yet? I really need to know....

Everyone,
I looked on the DNR's website and what a bunch of offices and contacts. Can anyone give some direction for enforcement for the DNR for IDA, Cherokee and Woodbury Counties? Thx.

Thats ridiculous. Im guessing he'll have an excuse like "I own the river bottom so its not littering. Its not polluting either cuz its not in the water." Please keep us updated.
